A significant rise in the cost of food has put pressure on programs such as the World Food Program (WFP) to deliver food aid and on countries to provide enough food for their citizens. The Philippines is also feeling the effects of the crisis and are going to distribute rice access cards to allow access to government subsidized rice.

Newspapers and and news broadcasts are help the country of Sierra Leone battle the AIDS epidemic that is sweeping the country. A group of reporters in the country are collaborating with the UN to spread awareness of the disease and educate the public.
