Traditional Stone Jumping

This is a remarkable activity that Fergus shared with us during class today. It is a traditional activity practiced in the south of Indonesia.

“Stone jumping involves leaping over a stone wall about up to 1.5 m high and was originally used to train warriors.”

Have a look to see this guy leap over 7 feet in the air.

Remember, your next blog post should be about tourism in your country. Try and find a tourism video or the official tourism site and post it to your blog.

Blogs of the Week

After our first week of blogging, many of you have jumped right into the new medium.  Despite some issues with site access in the labs, everyone has worked hard to problem solve and educate their group members. Here are 2 blogs that I would like to showcase:

Saudi Arabia – Resources and communication are very evident in this blog. The side bar displays several categories of links and the group is actively using the blog to share ideas and assignment information.

Bosnia- This group has chosen a theme with a customizable header (the header is the image at the top of the page). The have added a distinct flavor to their site and displayed a strong understanding of the Dashboard features in the process.

Beyond EXPO Ideas

The Beyond EXPO project has been introduced in Language Arts where you have been discussing science fiction, storyboarding and scripts. In Computer Studies class you are learning about Microsoft Photostory as a tool to produce your final movie. All groups have identified a problem facing the countries so have a look at the slide show for some more science fiction ideas for your solutions.

Media assists in the fight against AIDS

Here is a sample Current Events Post. I started by looking at my customized Google News to find an article about my country. Then I wrote a short summary about the article and added a link to the actual website. Remember to select Current events as your Category when posting.

Newspapers and and news broadcasts are help the country of Sierra Leone battle the AIDS epidemic that is sweeping the country. A group of reporters in the country are collaborating with the UN to spread awareness of the disease and educate the public.

You can access the article here.

Google News

Here is a great way to stay up to date with current events in your country using Google News. Customized news feeds allow you to track stories based on any keyword you choose.

Log into your iGoogle account and click News in the top left corner.

This should take you to a page that looks like this:

gnews

Click on the link to Personalize the page. Then you will have the option to add a customized section to your Google News feed based on a keyword of your choice.

gnews2

Enter your assigned country or any keyword such as a the name of a leader or city to receive news updates. The feed will appear at the bottom of your page but you can arrange the feeds by dragging them in the above window.

Good luck with your research!
